Our First Work Teams

It’s been a long time since our last post and with good reason. We’ve been busy. We’ve had three work teams come down starting mid-January and one of them leaves this Friday. The following Monday we pick up one more team that will leave Peru on March 2nd, the day before Elise’s due date. We’ve had so much fun being with the groups, but it is exhausting. Here are some photos from the teams that we’ve had so far.

The first team came from a high school near Toronto and on their first night was able to attend a quinceanera (like our sweet 16, but with much more pomp and for the 15th birthday). If you remember our story about a girl last time we were here who was really excited about the promise ring that she received on her 15th birthday, here she is 2 years later. This team was able to paint one of the new housing unit at the site of the new children’s home and lay a ton of sod there as well.

The second team is a family from the Windsor, ON area. They came two weeks ago and have been helping with summer school and doing some cleaning and tile work at the new site.

The third team is from the Mitchel Swaback foundation in Chicago and left last night after a week of accomplishing some amazing work. This is a team of skilled laborers that has come each year for the past five years and we are always amazed at how much work they get done. They dry-walled, tiled, and put doors in a new office building at the Oasis Care Center and tiled one of the new buildings at the new children’s home.
