Andahuaylas

Nestled in a beautiful valley, the town of Andahuaylas

Last week I (Jon) had an opportunity to visit our newest home in the mountain town of Andahuaylas.  This home opened about five years ago to minister to children who lived so far away from school that many of them had to hitchhike over two hours in the morning and evening only bringing a piece of bread with them for the day.  Rathen than a home for abused, abandoned, and neglected children like our home in Lima, this home is more of a boarding home to make education available to underpriviledged children.

I was only there for 48 hours and the first 24 of those were spent without seeing most of the kids.  Our group had an opportunity to spend the day getting to know the director and his wife.  I was so impressed by their hospitality, the job that they are doing, and their vision for the home.  The home is currently run out of their home until the new facility is ready (hopefully by March).

The next day I was able to meet all of the kids and work with them on Christmas cards for their sponsors.  The kids were so excited to do a craft and did an amazing job.  The highlight of the trip was being able to sing along with them during devotions and watch them as they prayed to, worshipped, and learned more about our God.

I can’t wait until I will be able to return and eventually take service teams there.
